The two most noteworthy events in our house lately involve a play kitchen and a birthday cake.
Yesterday, our wonderful neighbor blessed us with an adorable play kitchen that her kids no longer use. After much internal debate (because I can't stand that we have toys covering every square inch of our house....sometimes the concept of one, solitary playroom sounds so lovely) I decided it would be okay to put the play kitchen in our actual kitchen. It fit just perfectly in the space we put it and the kids have already spent tons of time playing there. I love watching Caleb's imagination run wild as he plays with the food and dishes. Leah takes much pride in the fact that she can take the play silverware in and out of the drawer a million times all by herself.

Another fun activity that took time in our kitchen this weekend involved a birthday cake for Grandpa Rob. This week, on numerous occasions, Caleb reminded me of Grandpa's love for Mario and Luigi. When Caleb is over at their house, he loves to "play" mariokart with Grandpa Rob. This, in turn, means that Grandpa must love Mario and Luigi. And when you love something, it should definitely be a part of your birthday celebration. So, as my adamant 3-year-old reminded me, over and over and over, Grandpa had to have a chocolate Mario cake for his birthday. We, by no means, allow our child to have everything he requests...but in this case, it was so sweet that he kept speaking up on Grandpa's behalf. After a bit of searching, I found a picture I figured I might be able to recreate....and so, after a couple hours of baking, cutting, assembling, and frosting, we ended up with this:
Not bad for a rookie.....it's amazing what we'll do for our kids!
