At 6am on June 29, we loaded our kids into the car and headed out to Channahon, Illinois. This was not our destination, just the first of a few stops on the way to one of my most favorite places on Earth...Lake of the Ozarks. In Channahon, we doulbed the capacity within our comfy mini-van and picked up the Watson family. For seven hours, we squeezed four adults and four kids ages four and under into the car and headed for (my version of) paradise. I thought we should've taken a picture of us all in the car and sent it to the EPA, with a caption stating, "how's this for carpooling and saving the planet?"! The trip went quite well and we only had a few meltdowns, two bathroom breaks, and one stop along the interstate for a carsick child.
Once we got there, the kids ran like crazy and burned off more than seven hours worth of energy. The pace slowed down a bit as the days went on, but there was rarely a dull moment on our four day trip. The kids kept busy playing in the water and it was wonderful for us adults to have time to catch up. We hardly get to see the Watsons because of the craziness that comes with two young kids to chase after. Overall, it was an awesome trip and we are all quite thankful for Aunt Nancy and Uncle Dave's great willingness to put up with such a crazy bunch for a few days!
