This time of year is probably the hardest with young kids. Especially young kids that have more energy than any adult could ever dream of having. These three little people have such a need to run, scream, and play freely. Yet, when the temps are dangerously cold and the snow is up to our knees, we are confined to the four walls that we call our home!
This winter has been a bit easier than last because Caleb has been at school all day. With that, however, comes a kid who has bottled up energy from an entire day of listening, sitting, and learning. He comes home and the hour or two before dinner can be brutal. I have He has kept sane by having his buddy Alec (from three houses down) come over after school to play quite a lot. It has been such a blessing to have this friend because it keeps Caleb from unleashing his energy on his younger siblings!
The kids have also stayed busy with some fun extracurricular activities. Caleb and Leah are doing tennis lessons. They also both still go to Awana each Wednesday night, which they love. Leah and Joel are taking bowling lessons. Grandma Leslie signed them up for that and takes them every Thursday morning. For awhile, Joel would ask what day it was every.single.time. he woke up....all in the hopes that I'd say Thursday because that's bowling day! Thursdays have also been fun for Caleb because he started an after school art club called Young Rembrandts.
On the weekends, we've spent a lot of time finishing up projects around the house. The remodeling that we started after Christmas was a much bigger undertaking than I could've imagined. The actual construction part went quickly, but all the decorating, rearranging, and so forth has consumed more time than I would've liked! Thankfully, the kids have been content to enjoy jammy days at home with movies, crafts, and other things while we finish up stuff.
Overall, it has been easier than last year and we are all quite glad that Spring is on the horizon!

How We Survive
Family Fun Night - puzzle time
helping Daddy with a project
The library and books are our best friends during the winter.
(and so are our brothers)
And when all else fails and you've run out of things to do...go eat ice cream!

Winter Fun
We've had another winter to remember this year in Chicago! There have been numerous days off of school - frigid temps and tons of snow. Thankfully, a few good snowfalls have come with decent temps, which gives us the chance to go outside to play! The kids could play for hours in the snow. And now that they are all pretty good at getting their layers of gear on by themselves, we make it out the door quick enough to make it all worth it! One particular day fell on a weekend, which meant we ALL got to play together in the snow. Of course, when Daddy is involved, the snowmen are a thousand times cooler (and bigger). Mommy had fun building a snow dog, but the kids continued to say it looked like a snow pig - better luck next time?!?
