There was once a time when Leah was attached at the hip to her mom and dad! She was even known to leave sleepovers early because she was sad to be away for just a night. Fast forward to the end of 8th grade and she is a much more outgoing and brave girl! She (and her best friend Brooke) decided to take a leap of faith and head to 4H camp. It was a bit of a crazy turnaround because she left the day after we got back from our road trip out west, but the chaos was worth it! We hit the road Sunday morning with Brooke and her mom, Stacy. The camp was just over two hours away in Monticello, IL. We made a stop for one last big, yummy meal in Champaign and headed off to the camp. When we got there, we were quite shocked by the very rustic accommodations. It was also in the middle of the woods, so the influx of cicadas made it extremely loud! We helped the girls unload and then headed home feeling VERY unsure of how the next few days would go! The girls couldn't have cell phones with them, so we knew we wouldn't hear anything until pickup on Thursday.
We were so excited to get them and hear all about the week, but we really didn't know what to expect! Upon getting there, I got a huge hug from Leah and she was smiling from ear to ear. She said that she had the best time and we heard all about it on the way home (after a stop for some good food). We couldn't believe that they had such a great time despite stories of not-so-great meals, bugs and mice in the cabins, and the extreme cicada situation
